Yes, "unfortunately" the flip side of having the First Amendment for the US (Freedom of Expression -- Speech and Press), is that you allow people with differing views on society, religion, culture, and the world a forum to speak.
You also have the right to not attend the event, to not listen to the speech, to not read the articles about the event/speech, to protest that person's views, to set up your own forum to counter that person's views and to send your kids to a different school if you disagree with a particular college's policies.
