I'd like everyone who reads this to comment below on whether or not they feel this t-shirt is racist or not:

well, if you are going to wear, or sell, a t-shirt with a monkey, eating a banana, which says "Obama in 08" it means, pretty much 100%, that you are racist. I would challenge this bar owner to wear this to 125th street in harlem.

I hear you V_08, but doesn't he indeed look a bit like Curious George? Are we being too 'pc'??

ripper, back to a few days ago. w/ hil at 16.6M votes and obama with 16.7M, how can you say she should drop and no chance? personally, she makes me ill, but the hillary argument is legit. please opine.

Minor Ripper-
What do you mean too P.C.? It is what it appears- RACIST. You are out of touch my friend. A joke is a joke but due to the history of disgusting oppression in this country and around the world (concerning people of african descent) this will never be considered as just a joke..

Yes. Most Fucking definitely Racist.

Do some research. The association is synonymous with "african ape", "porch monkey", "sambo", and "black ape" - all racial terms used in the US in a derogatory manner for people of African decent. (source Cassell's Dictionary of Slang)

Many "scholars" have felt Curious George has racial undertones on its own: A white man with the big yellow hat kidnaps George from the African jungle and ships him to America. George was sad but curious and quickly got himself into trouble and jail. Escaping but only to be put behind bars at the zoo in the end...

I know you're playing DA here Ripper but your comments lead you to approve of this print. Granted the creator wanted to create controversy either consciously or unconsciously with association with CG but I agree with v_08 if you choose to purchase/wear this, you agree with the symbolism and association that rolls with it.

This is one post I feel you should clarify your side.

BTW: Obama had fired a delegate from the campaign because she made a "passing" remark to a bunch of black kids climbing in trees that they were playing like monkeys. (well yeah monkeys play in trees) SunTimes Link
