Since he broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal a decade ago, Matt Drudge's The Drudge Report has been unparallelled in leveraging the power of the Internet to shape political opinion. As this Financial Times article reports, however, that is changing in a big way.
For the past month or so Drudge has been breathlessly reporting almost daily on McCain's leaps in the polls, and how he might just catch Obama.
The problem is, that facts just don't back it up, and it's making Drudge look....well, almost impotent this time around.
In essence, Matt Drudge in 2008 has become a victim of his own success. Liberal leaning websites like The Huffington Post and The Daily Kos initially aped Drudge but now have caught up and surpassed him in influence.
Keep screaming for McCain Matt. No one's listening.
