We are living through the most bizarre economic time in perhaps the last one hundred years. I use the caveat of 'perhaps' because we're not yet sure this will be worse than the great depression. It could very well be.We now have the recent phenomenon of rich people killing themselves in the face of debilitating financial losses, apparently incapable of dealing with both the perceived shame combined with the collapse of their monetary empires.
Today it was billionaire Adolf Merckle, a few days ago it was French hedge fund manager Thierry Magon de La Villehuchet who had become embroiled in the Madoff scandal.
There will undoubtably be more to come, as the financial situation drags on and becomes increasingly dire.
What was that old adage again--about money not being able to buy happiness?

Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet apparently did himself in out of honor, so it has been reported
I doubt Thierry is Japanese so there's no honor in seppuku for this man.
