The American political world is currently abuzz with the news that Republican Senator Judd Gregg has withdrawn as Obama's Commerce Secretery nominee. In doing so, he joined Bill Richardson and Tom Daschle as Obama cabinet nominees who have not made it due to a variety of reasons: Richardson due to a New Mexico corruption scandal that is hovering over him, and Daschle because of unpaid taxes.
Gregg--after openly lobbying for the Commerce position, apparently had a sudden change of heart and boldly proclaimed that the ideological differences between he and Obama were just too vast.
The move was pure Bush-league and will forever tarnish Senator Gregg's reputation.
Republicans are giddy because these setbacks are the only political victories they've had in going on three years.
But in the grand scheme of things, all of these occurances are nearly totally insignificant. No one will remember 7 years from now, deep into Obama's second term, who the fuck Judd Gregg even was.
Indeed if Republicans are willing to pop open the champagne for these silly little wins, its only more evidence of what an abyss their party currently finds itself in.
