Carville's new book "40 More Years: How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation," promises to be a must read if you're a Democrat, and a must not read under any circumstances if you're a Republican....Basically, the Republican party has become increasingly dependent on white Christian voters for votes, but the number of white Christian voters in America is dwindling due to massive demographic changes going on in America.
If Republicans were to try and moderate some of their divisive right wing issues like abortion and gay marriage, they would lose what remains of their 'base'--these very same largely southern, religious conservative voters--which would instantly devastate the party electorally.
The problem, indeed, seems nearly intractable....
