Yes, he wrote two or three very popular pop records during his career and was undeniably a great dancer--but that's it.
He wasn't a prolific artist: in addition to molesting children he spent 99% of his time lounging around in luxury, getting multiple plastic surgeries, and dying his skin white.
What on planet earth is all the fuss about??!!

Michael Jackson was not a great artist? What planet are you from? Really? Whether you like his music or not, the man clearly impacted people. From the looks of it, more than any other entertainer ever. Stop, smell the roses, and let people do what they feel is necessary to mourn this man's death.

Lighten up Frances. It's human nature (pun intended) for society to reflect upon itself. MJ, the pop icon, defined an era. MJ, the boy-man, was fallible.
I personally see the molestation charges as suspect, seemingly motivated by financial parasites looking to take advantage of his aloof, reclusive image. I'm sure that colors my opinion.
MJ's music was about kindness. People seek to celebrate it in an era of gansta rap, hookers and ho's and 187s.
So what if he made his money in music. Do you step on the flowers in Strawberry Fields? Will history remember money managers all that much differently 500 years from now?
He was a public science project. Is it any surprise that he had a fractured psyche? Mix mega stardom, a missing childhood and a dash of disease that degenerates your face (your public billboard) and poof, you get a person that most us can't relate to. Do we really expect that he would be like your or me?

If it weren't for rich lawyers, he would have been behind bars. The facial condition that he always used to explain his bizarre plastic surgery, was, too, apparently all a lie. That's what Quincy Jones and others have said recently. He was a total freak who wrote two hit albums. That's it.

He's got the number one selling album of all time -doubling sales of albums by these "mediocre" artists: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Eagles and Zeppelin...
He's the first child star that was raised from the age of 5 in the media spot light and given his obvious exposure to the public he's not the most mentally stable person.
The criminal investigation of Jackson for sex abuse was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged and in 05 he as acquitted. The settlement is typical for celebrities even when the allegations may have been the result of leeches looking to benefit from his financial position.
With 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles he is undeniably a staple of pop culture for the last 4 decades and will be remembered like Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso in the future.
AV--you are certainly entitled to your opinion but I stand 100% behind everything I wrote. The fact that a person is popular tells me nothing of their artistic merit. He was a lazy freak who had multiple plastic surgeries, tried to die his skin white, and DEFINITELY SLEPT WITH BOYS this is proven in the reams of testimony. I think he sucked and this reaction to his death is frightening.

If MR can definitely say that he slept with boys, it is then fair to say that if he were not so rich and famous he would NEVER have been accused of those crimes. Pick your poison, wither angle is disgustingly presumptuous.
BTW sleeping with a child is not the same as molesting a child.
More sensationalism by the Ripper. Simple fact is MJ is the number one most sucessful musician in modern history. No single musician can even come close to his cataloge.
Did he molest kids? Possibly. Though I suppose you could take any situation and make it look damning - especially when the person being accuses has so much money and so much to lose.
Regardless, I agree the reaction has been a bit over the top. But it's not like this is the first time people have reacted in great numbers like this to a celebrity death - John Lennon, Princess Di, etc.
The interesting thing is MJ created amazing music that got him tons of attention. You rip on him and the fans who loved him to get your attention. How does it feel to be one of Michael Jackson's pilot fish?

I seldon agree with you, but have to say you are spot on with regards to MJ. He did have amazing ability, but really was a freak in so many ways. It is amazing the way our society is devoting so much time to a person that contributed very little to the welfare of the world over the last 10 years. I look forward to more posts that I can agree with you on.
