The man killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and is a monster.
However his religion and the sound of his name should have no significance in this story.
No one referred to the Columbine killers as "American Protestants."
Could this maniac have terrorist ties? Yes. But we don't know that yet.
So let's not impugn the world's most populous religion based on one man, before we know hardly any of the facts.

Why would any rational thinking person draw any parallels between a lunatic screaming allahu akbar while he kills guns down innocent Americans and radical islam? Makes no sense.
I mean all major religions were lead by a warrior like mohammad and preach death to the infidel as a major tenant.

As much as you'd like the narrative of the worlds religions to be simply, "Muslim bad. Christian good." Things are probably a bit more complex than that.
