Extremists who oppose the president have begun fantasizing about a military coup to overthrow Obama.
Newsmax columnist John Perry wrote Tuesday that President Obama "is inviting" a military coup" and that it might not be such a bad thing: "Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars." (Newsmax appears to have taken the column down.)
On the same day conservative talk-radio host Jim Quinn directly addressed U.S. troops, telling them that Obama is "gonna get you killed."
Media Matters points out that the appeals to the military follow a wave of rhetoric from the right suggesting that civilian violence against the government might be justified. Chuck Norris has asked if people are ready for "a second American Revolution." RedState's Erick Erickson has asked, "At what point do the people ... march down to their state legislator's house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp?" Radio host Michael Savage declared recently that "we're going to have a revolution in this country."

Word came out earlier this week that Sarah Palin's new book "Going Rogue" will be coming out in November, a few months earlier than previously thought, and that the publisher will be printing an impressive 1.5 million books--which suggests they think the book will sell very well...My question is: sell well to who??
Who the fuck in a billion years would actually walk into a Barnes and Noble and shell out $20 to read a 'book' by this vapid dunce, this international joke, this lipsticked buffoon?

Fascinating new Excerpts from former Bush Speechwriter Latimer's New Book Emerge

In the new book that is causing “nervousness” amongst Bush loyalists, former speechwriter Matt Latimer reveals some of the dysfunction and disagreements in the Bush administration. HuffPost’s Ryan Grim reports:
– Donald Rumsfeld had to be talked out of editing his own entry on Wikipedia, which he referred to as “Wika-wakka.” He was a Drudge Report reader and used to watch YouTube clips that made fun of his press conference performances.
– Bush, when told that Idaho Sen. Larry Craig had been the latest GOPer to be caught in a sex scandal involving boys or men: “What is up with all these Republicans?”
– While Karl Rove was appearing on Fox News and writing op-eds as an independent political analyst, he was privately smearing Democrats. “Karl spread rumors through the White House that one of Obama’s potential vice presidential running mates — and a United States senator — had beaten his first wife. ‘Karl says it’s true,’ the president assured a small group of staffers. Then knowing Karl, he quickly added, ‘Karl hopes it’s true,” reports Latimer.
– For a commencement address at Furman University in spring 2008, Ed Gillespie wanted to insert a few lines condemning gay marriage. Bush called the speech too “condemnatory” and said, “I’m not going to tell some gay kid in the audience that he can’t get married.” (Of course, Bush ran his 2004 campaign telling that kid just that.)
– Bush on Jimmy Carter: “If I’m ever eighty-two years old and acting like that have someone put me away.”
Obama Woos Senator Olympia Snowe for Health Care Reform
“I haven’t changed as a Republican,” she said. “I think more that my party has changed.”
Moderate Republicans in Congress these days are about as rare as the White Rhino.
In an era where the national party is ruled by wild eyed fanatics like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Joe Wilson, old school fiscally moderate northeastern Republicans like Olympia Snowe of Maine are a dying breed that is nearly extinct.
It's a shame, too, because these folks were once the core of the party. George Herbert Walker Bush, Lincoln Chafee, Dwight Eisenhower, and Nelson Rockefeller were all sane, smart, cerebral, rational, fiscally conservative members of the GOP who won national elections and who appealed widely to independent swing voters...
In other words, very different than Sarah Palin.
Olympia Snowe is therefore perhaps the key politician in Washington D.C. today: her support or opposition to the president's health care plan could very well be the difference.
I'm glad they seem to be getting along....

Pelosi, Democrats Worried about 2010 Midterm Elections
Take this news with a grain of salt, because it is a fundraising pitch--but still, the Democrats do face the loss of Congressional seats in next year's midterm elections...The reality is that the presidential party nearly always loses seats in the first Congressional election after their party wins the presidency.
Combine that with the extraordinarily ambitious domestic agenda Obama has been pushing (stimulus, health care reform, global warming legislation), and the fact that the country is still embroiled in a miserable recession--it could mean significant losses for the party.
The Democrats' saving grace, however, is that the Republican party these days is akin to an electoral eunuch: busy scaring the daylights out of moderates and independents with wild eyed racists like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh taking center stage for the party.
Keep in mind these same moderates and independents are the ones who will ultimately swing the election.
My prediction? The Dems will still be in control of both Houses of Congress, albeit by a marginally smaller majority....

Joe Wilson, GOP Icon
Today brings us a must read about this ugly Joe Wilson business from Maureen Dowd...Yesterday, of course, Wilson became the first Congressman in the history of the Republic to be formally rebuked by his peers for his outrageous outburst during the president's speech last week.
The bottom line is this: a majority of white Americans--overwhelmingly so in the South of the country, just can't deal with a black man being their president.
It's too much of a change for them....their world has been turned upside down. These people work for us! They clean up after us and bring us cold Lemonade!!
Of course they don't consider themselves racist, yet they 'want their America back', and claim Obama is a Muslim who was born in Kenya...
Historians will look back at this time in America as the period when the country first really began to come to grips with the fact that white people are becoming a permanent minority.
Future decades will undoubtedly see Hispanic presidents, other black presidents, and even a Muslim president...

Pawlenty Slams RomneyCare
Consider this a shot across the bow in the 2012 GOP nominating battle, which likely will come down to a contest between former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty.
Health care reform, as we know, has become hugely controversial and the GOP has unified in total opposition to any meaningful reform, seeing a plum opportunity to inflict major political damage on both President Obama and Congressional Democrats up for reelection in 2010.
A dirty little secret, however, is that Mitt Romney (with major help from Ted Kennedy, of all people) basically passed universal health care for citizens of Massachusetts a few years ago.
Who cares if it was courageous on Romney's part and helped hundreds of thousands of people get access to health care--Pawlenty sees a raw political opportunity that plays to the base of the Republican party who are critical to the 2012 nominating process in the primaries and caucuses...
In the video here, Pawlenty doesn't come right out and say "Romney" or "Massachusetts" but as the article says anyone with a political IQ above room temperature knows who he's referring to.

September Reset
This past August in American politics was a very weird month; filled with birthers, deathers, freaks carrying loaded guns to presidential events, and people like Glenn Beck comparing the Democrats to Nazis.Unfortunately it was almost completely devoid of substance. Policy on important issues like war, taxes, and health care reform was taken down to the level of the lowest common denominator.
It was the month that cracks finally began to show in Obama's formidable political facade of invincibility, and Republicans began to smell blood.
Let's be thankful that August is finally over, and realize again some fundamental truths: Obama is not finished politically, health care reform will pass, and Democrats will still be in control of both houses in Congress come November 2010.
Now everybody take a deep breath....

Jeb Bush: No Plans to Run for President "Right Now"
Make no mistake about it, it's not a question of 'if' Jeb Bush eventually runs for president, it's a question of 'when'. As this story points out, he's currently being coy on the topic...The vastly more intelligent of the Bush brothers harbors deep, widely known presidential ambitions.
But would America be prepared to elect another Bush so soon after the debacle of George W. Bush?
The answer is probably yes, unfortunately: humans are like sheep, and not very far from where we were in the Dark Ages, where vassals, noblemen, and the aristocracy led the peasants around by the nose.
It's patently un-American for someone to become a president, governor, or elected official based largely on their lineage, bloodline, or last name. I don't care if it's a Bush, or a Kennedy.
Europeans do that nonsense, not Americans. We are supposed to be the world's first pure meritocracy. We don't have a fucking royal line. You eat what you kill in life.
