At 92 years old, Byrd leaves as the most tenured member of the United States Senate in the bodies's history. The man, put simply, was a legislative titan: having served as a Senator for 51 years, for the American Congress, for the United States, they do not come any bigger than Senator Byrd.
An avid historian, Byrd studied the Roman Senate--and his frequent comparison's to that entity's history and eventual demise with that of America's were thought provoking and fascinating.
He was a political peer of JFK, who would have been 93 if he were still alive today.
