First off, Karl Rove is more cunning, deceptive...and politically shrewd than perhaps anyone on planet earth. Joseph Goebbels--Hitler's PR man, had nothing on this guy. He got an abject dunce, George W. Bush elected president not once but twice...
I submit that is a political feat akin to getting your average chimpanzee elected president.
Anyway, I digress...back to the rationale for this post: You see the inmates have pretty much moved to take control of the asylum this time around for the national Republican party.
For decades 'establishment' Republicans like Richard Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr. and Rove kept the racist, ignorant minions that make up the 'base' of the party at arms length--humoring them every now and again, and acting like they take them seriously, but in reality just easily manipulating their soft minds by subtly playing to their racism and economic fears. Reagan launched his 1980 presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and who can forget Bush Sr.'s infamous 1992 Willie Horton campaign ad? Oh yeah, and let's not forget Reagan's 'welfare queens'...
Rove realizes having these Tea Bagging dunces actually driving the train with the party will never fly long term, and is trying to kill off the likes of Palin, Huckabee, O'Donnell, etc. in the cradle to clear the way for Mitt Romney in two years.
Thing is, the inmates have gotten their first taste of real power and they like it. Good luck putting the genie back into the bottle, Karl....
