As chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Commission during the 2006 and 2008 elections, he took the Dems from a being a minority in that chamber to a comfortable, filibuster proof majority--which recently ended when Scott Brown won in Massachusetts after Schumer had stepped down as head of the committee....

Obama, McCain Diss Each Other
On CNN's Situation Room Monday afternoon, White House aide David Axelrod was asked about Sen. John McCain's prediction that Democrats will face "a very heavy price to pay" for passing health care reform. Axelrod responded with a rhetorical dagger.
Well, look, I -- I respect Senator McCain, and I remember when he was a strong independent voice in the United States Senate. Last year, he had the most partisan voting record in the United States Senate. He's got a challenge from the right wing of his own party right now. I understand that, too. But when he said today that we're not going to get anymore cooperation from the Republican party this year in the United States Senate because they're unhappy about this health insurance reform, I think that's unfortunate. That's better for the sandlot than it is for governance. We need to work together to solve problems.
McCain's spokeswoman, Brooke Buchanan, immediately responded with a statement attacking President Obama.
Senator John McCain will always stand on the side of the American people. Get used to it, Mr. Axelrod, that's what strong, independent members do – you'd know that if you had ever worked for one.
It's not every day that a senator calls the president weak, or that a senior aide to the president effectively calls a senator a sellout.

Health Care Reform is Done.
Any American citizen who can say with a straight face that our health care system isn't completely fucked up and dysfunctional would be lying.
I must admit I did not read the fine print of the bill that just passed, but I am confident that ANY reform to the existing system is a step in the right direction.
The fact of the matter is that America already has a 'universal' health care system: if anyone gets sick or hit by a bus--whether that person is rich or poor, insured or uninsured, that person will get treated by a doctor 100%
If that person can't pay, well then the government picks up the tab. The problems are that neither the patient or the doctors themselves could give a fuck what anything costs because no one knows or cares! Doctors under the current system are incentivized to run up costs by piling on unnecessary treatments, etc.
It is, indeed, the very definition of dysfunction. Those who play by the rules and try to purchase health care for themselves and their families are forced to subsidize shit like the above and have gotten crushed--they simply can't afford it.
Well done President Obama and the entire Democratic party. We have taken one small step to catching up to the entire rest of the civilized world with regards to the health care of our citizenry...

Karl Rove, Unapologetic
You could not make me read Karl Rove's new book if you put a loaded gun to my head.
Having said that, even the most passive political observer must be impressed with his track record: the man took George W. Bush--a guy who by all objective accounts had/has the IQ of your average trained chimp and made him first the governor of Texas, then a two term President of the United States.
I find Karl Rove today to be at the zenith of his annoyingness: he seems to write a new, incredibly partisan, bellicose opinion piece in Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal every other day. Turd blossom (W's affectionate name for him) appears regularly on FOX News as an 'expert' political prognosticator.
Indeed these days you can't get rid of Karl Rove. I wish he would take a cue from his old boss, and just disappear.

Israel Slaps Obama. Biden Slaps Back.
Its become pretty clear that the far right current Israeli government would prefer that a far right Republican be president rather than Barack Obama.
This became abundantly clear yesterday, however, when VP Joe Biden visited Israel to try and move the Middle East peace process forward and got the diplomatic equivalent of being publicly kicked in the nuts by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Biden retaliated by keeping the Israeli leader waiting for 90 minutes before showing up for dinner.
It's clear that Obama can't let a foreign leader humiliate him like this any more in the future. Especially a supposed 'ally'...
